DO YOU CARE ENOUGH TO RISE UP AND WRITE FOR KASHMIR?

Dear citizens of the world,

. . . Our lockdown is for our own safety while the Kashmiris are illegally under control by India, facing oppression and insecurity in their own homeland. To this day, October 17th 2020, Kashmir has been in a security lockdown and a communication blackout for exactly 1 year, 2 months and 11 days.
That’s exactly 439 days.

Dear People of the world,

. . .Children in the region are living in the most militarized and terrorized zone of the world. There is presence of more than 700,000 military troops, which exposes them to the risk of all six grave violations against children as laid out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Everyone wants Kashmir but no one wants Kashmiris
by Celina Peerzada Grade 10
Because of your silence . . .
The lockdown of 2019
Millions of men lined with guns
Barbed wires and fences
Cries and screams echo
Families broken,
Infants isolated
Bullets shot, innocence handcuffed
As far as the eye can see.
Bodies, minds, hearts chained
400 days and counting
Because of the sickening sound
Of your silence
Your heart sinks deep
For they have set aside their dreams
Buried their hopes
To stay alive
Now locked in their homes,
Everything in their minds
Starts to spin
Will it ever be the same again?
All the memories
All the love
Gone
Because they took it away
They who consider themselves right
Take the lives of innocent people
Some during the light
Some during the night
Minute by minute
They suffer, they perish
They wait
They die.
Bodies, minds, hearts chained
400 days and counting
Because of the sickening sound
Of your silence.

Three wise monkeys

There are three that exist,
Three meant to guide
There meanings misconstrued,
Forgotten and disguised
There are three that exist
The first is Mizaru, who sees no evil,
He is used as an excuse
To hide from things less than peaceful,
To blind ourselves to the spilt blood
Of infants and other things illegal
There are three that exist
The second hears no evil, he is Kisarazu
He is our justification, for Drowning
Out the cries of those beaten black and blue,
For burying the screams of citizens,
Whose country has been torn in two
There are three that exist
The third is Iwazaru, he speaks no evil, covers his mouth
Him we use to vindicate ourselves
For not speaking of things that should not be left out
We trap our voices, letting them rot
When we could be speaking for those without
There are three that exist
Three not meant to be excuses for indifference
But sadly, this is the world we belong to,
A dark place shielded with ignorance
Engulfed with violence
A place that slowly dismantles innocence
We sit and watch and say “what a shame” as a country is violated
We do nothing as women are raped as children are executed
Then when the violence ceases, we plead ignorance, we point the
Finger of blame and we honour the persecuted
Truthfully the world doesn’t care, until its them.
We see no evil, here no evil, speak no evil, must we stay deluded
How much longer will our silence be the loudest sound?

Free or feared
BY LYBA SALMAN
GRADE DP1
Dear Children of Kashmir,
Our world is a game of choice
A battle of decision
Of whether to live in fear or freely
Free, although a risk
A risk of the endgame
Oh! but we crave the freedom
No, we dream of it.
We dream of seeing the outside
Of simply having a reason to live
Of being a part of the world
Of being given a chance
But the price is too high
Going out in our world, means acceptance
Acceptance that this is not our world
Acceptance that we are merely victims gazed at by our oppressors
Acceptance of the possibility that going out once means not coming back
Acceptance that we could not only lose our innocence but our lives
Fear is to give up
To simply exist in the world of destruction
To give up living
Indeed, unfortunate, the limits of our options
With the agitation that we must give ourselves
With no identity, culture or purpose
Do we dream of being birds flying off a cliff?
Or do we dream of being birds with chains at our feet?
Do we give it up or risk it all?
Our world is a game of choice
Free without fear
Or fear without freedom
Kashmir Don’t Bleed!
*
Oh My beautiful land, don’t bleed!
You are part of my soul, don’t bleed!
The smile has been snatched from your face, don’t bleed!
The rosy cheeks have lost their glow, don’t bleed!
*
The glitter in your eyes is no more the same
The words in your heart are bleeding again
I still remember the way you were sketched by my Ancestors
As a heaven on Earth full of beautiful treasures.
*
I feel your pain as you are a part of me
I feel your blood as if it's coming out of me
Oh beautiful land, you are my pride!
Oh beautiful land, I'll stand by your side!
*
People are mean and cruel to you
They are injuring, killing and destroying you
May you stay strong, I pray hard for you
My Allah will listen and my dream will come true
*
One day will come
When you will be free
Yes, you will be free!
Yes, you will be free!

Freedom

IF ONLY IF ONLY
SIGHS THE BIRD
THIS CAGE WAS AS SOFT AS THE SKIES
IF ONLY IF ONLY
THINKS THE BABY BIRD
IF I COULD JUST FLY ABOVE THE SKIES
THE HUNTERS WAIT DOWN WAITING AND WAITING
WITH DREADED GUNS IN THEIR HANDS
WHILE THE WOLF CRIES OUT TO THE MOON
IF ONLY IF ONLY
FREEDOM WAS FOR EVERYONE
HUMANS, ANIMALS AND I.
IF ONLY IF ONLY….
EVERYONE
HAD THE RIGHT TO BE FREE
IF ONLY IF ONLY
WE COULD RISE UP AND FIGHT
FOR THE ONES WHO COULDN’T BE.
